Facebook Fan page

Eileen Koch and Company is successful Public relations company run out of the downtown California area.

The company represents a number of successful clients in the modeling, acting and business fields.  After reviewing the website I was quite impressed. However when I clicked the link to the Facebook fan page I was unimpressed. The first page it takes you to is Eileen Koch’s Facebook page – but it is not a fan page, it is her personal account. There was a link to the fan page on her site, but after clicking it – I soon found out the only thing on the page was the “like” button.

What did the company do well on their Facebook page?

They made a fan page – its a start…

What did the company not do well?

The company failed to have any visuals on the fan page

they also  did not have any new posts or interaction on the page

Recommendations:

Make posts on the fan page

send friend requests to get people involved

create visuals for fans to see

interact with fans by posting things about the company

Maybe get some of their high end clients to make posts.

A little something to make you laugh:

About Vitamin Water:

Vitamin water was founded in 1996. After feeling exhausted one day after working out Darius Bikoff had “a one two punch, of a raging thirst and low energy”.  After drinking some water Darius decided that the regular water he was drinking was sufficient enough to regain his engergy, and decided that a water should have benefits.  Thus came the creation of vitamin water. Today the company (Glaceau) is the leader of the enhanced water category, with over 750+ employees, the company now makes – vitaminwater, fruitwater, smartwater and vitaminenergy.

Companies and social media

With social media booming more than ever over the past year, it has become a high priority among organizations to become increasingly engaged on the internet. It can allow companies to connect with potential and existing consumers on a more personal level, making the customer feel valued.  In this case, my post this week will be focusing on how social media has become a great asset to PR companies everywhere.

For my example, I’m going to take you back to a earlier post of mine – Kelly Cutrone. For those of you who didn’t read my earlier post about her or don’t know who she is, Kelly Cutrone owns a PR company called People’s Revolution. People’s Revolution’s main focus is fashion, and it has made Kelly Cutrone one of the top fashion publicists in the world. For her, social media consists of blogging, websites, tweeting and facebooking about new events, promotions and her everyday life.

For example she recently tweeted about an upcoming booking signing in Texas, tweeting “where should I go for a book signing in Texas, for Normal gets you nowhere!?” This tweet not only promotes the book and where she will be going but also prompts her followers to engage.

Because of this, it has made People’s Revolution achieve a number of marketing goals, the number one, they have been noticed. It may not be a household name to everyone yet, however, for anyone in the fashion world it is. Thus she has accomplished one of the main factors of marketing – brand building.

My Top ten: Celebrity PR moments!

Hey guys,

This week I thought I would kind of add on to what I posted last week, and since this week calls for a top ten…..I thought why not make it my favorite top ten celebrity PR moments? I know it seems kind of shallow showing the good, the bad and the ugly of celebrities… but you have to admit doesn’t celebrity gossip intrigue you?…because I can admit I feed off this stuff!

here we go!

1. Britney Spears shaves her head – remember that bulk period of time when Britney Spears went off the deep end for a little bit in 2006=2007?…. the result……she went bald.

2. I think my next favorite would have to be this years story of Charlie Sheen. If you haven’t seen his show Two and a Half Men, your missing out. Because not only has Charlie turned his on screen character into his real life… he might just be worse…

3. Tiger Woods….what were you ever thinking? Tiger woods the multi-million dollar superstar…cheated on his wife with not just 1, not 2…but maybe 15+ mistresses for years….My question is what did he think was going to happen! that it wasn’t going to blow up in his face!? And what makes me even more mad is his wife is gorgeous!

4. Kanye vs Taylor swift…. need I say more? For those of you who have never seen what happened… take a gander at this:

5. The Hoff…and his cheese burgers… For those of you who love the hoff … you’ll love him even more after this. I laughed so hard when I saw this video it made me cry.. and this best part about it the Hoff had a sense of humor about the whole thing when it landed on the internet…now that’s handling bad press well!

6.  Jersey Shore’s snooki …. arrested for being drunk in public……are you surprised?

7.  Justin Bieber takes over the world.

Who ever thought this small town boy who was discovered on youtube, would be this huge today? Justin Bieber went from uploading songs of himself on youtube from his house to having a world famous mentor (usher), a coined hair style and millions of teenage girls falling in love. I have to admit though, it’s awesome having a Canadian make it and become so successful!

8. Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt-

This story makes it into my top ten, not because I enjoyed it but mostly because I was shocked about it! Jennifer Aniston who was married to Brad Pitt for almost ten years, then as he was shooting Mr. and Mrs.Smith with Angelina Jolie….then envitable happened. Jenn and Brad divorced… Brad stays with Angelina and they adopt a babies from every country in the world. I think I was most shocked about this because it’s like the whole Tiger woods story…who cheats on Jennifer Aniston? She’s got the whole package… and in my opinion better than Angelina…

9. John Mayor – dates everyone who is anyone.

Seems like this man acts more like a boy when it comes to women.  Linked to people like Jennifer Anniston, Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift, etc I think by now he’s almost more famous for his bed hoping then his music….

10. Last but not least…Katie holms and Tom Cruise make TomKat!

I don’t care what anyone says – (even with their age difference!) I think these two make a great couple – yes she may have never been the girl that you expected Tom Cruise to marry – but they make one good looking kid!

A Public Relation firm’s nightmare: Lindsay Lohan

Well she’s done it again folks. After just 3 weeks after being released from the Betty Ford Clinic Lindsay Lohan has been accused of stealing a $2500.00 necklace from Kamofie & Co. in Venice, California (Which is conveniently near Lohan’s current place of residence).

Lohan who not only still on probation from a 2007 driving incident but also has recently had a number of legal issues, has made 2 trips to jail in 2010 and has been in and out of rehab at least 5 times.

Here is the article if you feel like taking a peek:

Lindsay Lohan investigated in theft of necklace

My question is: Will this girl ever learn? Or do you think this time it’s just a case of bad luck?

Either way this is every PR firm’s nightmare – There is only so much fluffing  and excuses you can do before people just start to lable. I almost think the best thing Lindsay could do right now is deny – that way, if she can proove other wise, maybe she can get some good press for herself and try to drown out some of the thousands of negative press shes been getting.

Contests make people excited!

As most of you know The Beat 94.5 is one of the hottest radio stations in B.C.. Their target audience ranges any where from 12-40 years of age because of the number of different shows they play. The radio station’s music is focused on new hit music (mostly that of pop/hip hop) and an old school lunch that plays the old hits.

But today what I’m more specifically focused on is their contests. I know that its a very broad topic, but what I’m wondering is if having a number of contests (with big prizes) strives consumers to listen and like The Beat more?

My first answer towards this question, was answered immediatley when I saw an image that says “Like us for more exclusive content” – this included insider information for contests. The beat as we speak is up to almost 4,000 friends on Facebook and almost 8,000 on Twitter (I’d say having contest’s is somewhat working for them!)

I also have to use my personal experience to answer this question. Not only did I start listening  more intently when “Beat your bills” or “10,000$ thursday’s” started, I noticed people at my work talked about it more and more. It started having the water cooler effect!

I personally think The Beat has done a great job attracting their listeners to the site because the contests have been promoted so well over the radio and the stakes are high. Another way I think they could add to their popularity is adding videos of the winners on their facebook pages. I think it would get more people talking and excited (especially since they’re usually really funny!)

PR’s Social Butterfly….with a twist.

I like to think my personality type can be almost referred to a social butterfly but with a twist. I love being very social, whether it’s hanging out with friends/family, being at work or just surfing the net. However, lately … Continue reading

Transparency and business

After reading over a number of articles about the meaning of transparency, it seems as though transparency means to be ethical. I use the word ethical because I believe it applies to all terms of being trustworthy, honest, accountable etc.  The article “Transparency in Business” touches base on all of these accounts.

Because transparency has derived from social media sky rocketing over the last couple of years, consumers who use social media can be immediately affected by negative issues from organizations. It is important for any company using social media to understand the importance of transparency because word of mouth will not only spread fast on social media but it also accounts for 40% or more of some organizations sales.

Lj Relations – PR at its best.

Hello!

My name is Lauren and I am a 24 year old Coquitlam resident. I am a big athlete and love to try new sports. Currently I am training for a half marathon!

Why Lj Relations?

Lj Relations is a public relations company that I wish start up one day. However before my dream of owning my own business happens, I am eager learn from my peers experiences in marketing.

My blog:

This blog will focus the my path to my career. It will follow my school courses, marketing adventures and new innovative ideas.

The reason I choose marketing:

In 2004, I graduated from high school and moved on to Douglas College that same fall. At the time I wanted to be a teacher because I worked as a swim coach and really loved the feeling when I saw  kids succeed at what they worked so hard for. So through the years I continued taking courses at Douglas and later moving to SFU pursuing a double major in Geography and History. However, after speaking to friend one day, I noticed that when she talked about her classes at school, she was so passionate about them, she loved every minute of them. That’s when I came to the realization – I did not feel the same way.

So I took a semester off and that  brought me to BCIT. Since starting here, I really enjoy going to school and I now feel the same passion about marketing as my friend once talked about.
